This morning’s story on NPR mentioned the nearing approval of using graphic depictions of consequences of tobacco use on tobacco packaging. Realizing that many other countries have been using this preventative strategy for several years, the tobacco industry is still considering blocking this type of advertising in the US. Thier reasoning: it demonizes the tobacco industry, and it creates greater stigma for the tobacco user.
My thoughts are: We are not agaist the tobacco user. We have nothing against the tobacco users (as no one should). Our concern is the behavior and the outcomes of that behavior. As for the tobacco industry, anyone that can kill someone every 6.5 seconds (www.thetruth.com) should be considering a demon.
As for me I’ll take the black lung with a little harry tongue on the side.
